FAQ's FOR THE NATIONAL RELAY

Fundraising

How much am I required to fundraise to participate?

As a team rider for the National Relay and your 4-6 days of participation during the event, we suggest a fundraising goal of $2,500. (*Note: 100% of the donations that we receive goes directly to you're charity/cause of your choice and what matters to you.)

We believe in letting you have a say in the commitment you want to invest in for this event. Some riders have raised over $10,000 while others have invested their time and commitment in other ways, such as helping to obtain sponsorships, or helping to spread the word in their communities - all of which have just as much impact as each other.

If you are riding for a cause that you are truly passionate about we believe you have the integrity to put forth your best fundraising efforts for that cause.

Wow $2,500 - can I really fundraise that much?

While some people may find fundraising $2,500 quite easy, others may find it very daunting and will not be sure where to start. Cyclebetes is here to help and support you 100%. We can provide you with a bunch of ideas and then when you decide which avenue you wish to take, then you can ask any questions and gain support from us to help you follow through with your ideas.

You will be surprised how quickly you can obtain your goal if you put in a little heart, passion and innovation into it, along with some fun and adventure! From the beginning you need to not view it as a burden or negative, but rather as a challenge to yourselves to see how creative you can be and to know you are touching the soles to thousands of kids across Canada that are appreciated of every cent you raise so they don't have to live the rest of their lives with Type 1.

Ways to Fundraise

This Fundraising Kit should help make it eaiser!

Getting

  1. Your donations profile page: make sure you have created This your profile and signed up for the Provincial Team or Community Event in which you wish to partipate in. Make sure you add your picture and post a personal message to reach out to everyone that reads it. Then you will have the link that you can forward everyone to direct them straight to your fundraising page.

  2. Personal Contacts: Sit down and go through a list of all the people you know, all your friends, family, relatives, work friends and collegues, your doctor, your dentist, sporting contacts, facebook contacts, old school friends etc. Send out an email to everyone one of these people you know or touch base with them face to face - let them know what you are doing and how they can help and make sure you add in the link to your donations page - this is key. Friends can then email their friends (facebook could be a key communication method here - post your donations page link on your facebook page). Think if you can compile a list of 100 people that you know including friends of friends, if everyone donated only $10, there is $1000 ! ** Note - be sure to follow up with people after 3-4 weeks just to remind those that may have liked to have donated by forgot.

  3. Read through the Fundraising Kit. Pick just one major key activity or area you wish to pursue and then brainstorm how you are going to execute that idea. This is when you can email megan@cyclebetes.com with extra support, ideas or questions. Pick a date you will run or do this fundraising idea, decide how you are going to let everyone know about it, and what resourses and help you need.

  4. Re-evalute: After contacting all your friends and family members and running your one 'big' fundraising idea, see where you are at with you goal. If you are still falling short of your $2,500 goal then go back to the Fundraising Kit to start your next fundraising adventure. If you go 'BIG' and spend some quality time on your first idea then one event may very well get you there.

  5. For an example see how one rider organized a simple fundraiser in his local mall, creating awareness for the cause and putting a major dent in his total: Cyclebetes Community Mall Spin

How do my friends and family or local business's donate money towards my personal fundraising goal?

There are two ways to do this:
1. They can donate money directly to you in the form of cash, cheque, or credit card. You will fill in their details on the pledge sheet that is provided to you in your Provincial Team Info Kit.

2. The best and easiest option for others to make donations towards your goal is for them to donate directly through your online profile. Once you have created your profile page on the 4 What Matters Donation site, you can provide them the link to your direct profile page. They can get this link thenselves by going to 4 What Matters search page, searching for your page in the search bar, and clicking on the donate button on the left-hand side of the page.

What if I receive cash and cheque donations?

Receive donations by cash or cheque is totally fine. Convert your cash into cheques using a personal chq or a bank draft at your bank, and sent in your cheques and pledge sheet to:

Make sure you inform your donors to make cheques out to '4 What Matters Foundation'. Also make sure you include your own name and what Cyclebetes Event you are involved in so that we can ensure this amount is added to your online profile

How do donors obtain their tax receipts?

If you donate by cash or cheque, make sure your name and address is on the pledge form of the person you are donationing too and you will be mailed a tax receipt if your donation is $20 or greater.
