NATIONAL RELAY INFO
CYCLE4 National Relay Ride
presented by sanofi-aventis
Date: August 13 - September 4 2011
Start: Vancouver, British Columbia
Finish: Halifax, Nova Scotia
After a successful two years, Cyclebetes is happy to announce that we have become a recognized Canadian charitable foundation (#817879141RR0001), and is expanding our programs to make the greatest impact in the world. As we continue to deliver on a promise for a cure, we have opened up our programs to others causes that seek to deliver on their own promises.
Our new name, CYCLE4: National Relay presented by sanofi-aventis, allows teams and participants to choose their charity, and then ride to support them. Team Cyclebetes exists to continue our support of type 1 diabetes research, but now we invite multiple teams along for our cross-Canada ride!
From August 13th to September 4th every summer, multiple cycling teams ride - relay style - across Canada. Each team consists of 30 riders representing different regions of the country, as well as a support crew and 30-foot RV. Teams choose a cause they want to raise money for and embark on a one-of-a-kind journey for what matters to them.
The National Relay is broken down into five regions:
- Western: Vancouver to Calgary (4 days)
- Central: Calgary to Thunder Bay (6 days)
- West Ontario: Thunder Bay to Mississauga (5 days)
- Unites communities
- East: Mississauga to Quebec City (4 days)
- Maritimes: Quebec City to Halifax (5 days)
Each team of 30 is composed of five regional teams of six riders each. Two individuals ride the route at a time, either on solo bikes or in tandem, with four others following in the team's RV until a shift change. This rotating system allows for more ride time, and strong teamwork.
You can download relay package for all the details of the ride.
